Mardi Gras Glitter Fleur de Lys

Mardi Gras Glitter Fleur de Lys
One of the very first “throws” for most Carnival parades in the American south were necklaces made of glass beads. In recent years there has been a resurgence of throwing glass beads and pivoting Carnival throws to a more sustainable direction. They come in a huge variety of colors and I love using them in my work to remind us all of the joy that Mardi Gras is.
These obsidian black glass beads hang from a deep purple, emerald and gold Fleur de Lys with small cut outs like circles, stars and a heart. The beads are flexible and move gently when touched. The wall piece can be used on a holiday tree, hung on the wall or incorporated into a wearable.
